*tap tap* Ahem. Is this thing on? Sunday Social with Neely & Ashley

1. Favorite Genre of Music?
Generally, I like poppy music with a good beat for dancing. I especially love songs about booties and shaking them e.g. Jason Derulo's Wiggle Wiggle, Baby Got Back, Country Girl Shake it for Me, and the like.  This is hysterical because in spite of nearly three decades of dance instruction under my belt, my club dancing is atrocious and I dance shamelessly.

2. Favorite Genre of movies?
When watching at home, the cheesier the acting, the better I like them. Late 90s-Early 2000s movies, 80s Brat Pack movies, Disney Channel movies and ABC Family have some of the best. When watching in theaters, I enjoy superhero movies, romantic comedies, family movies, but not anything that is stereotypically "boy" movies.

3. Do you watch Reality TV? If so what was the first show you remember watching:
I remember the first season of American Idol. It was my freshman year of college and I remember laughing so hard my sides hurt with my parents. I watch America's Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, and I like a lot of what's on TLC.

 4. Actress you’d want to be BFF’s with?
This feels like a cliche answer right now because she's gotten really popular but I like Jennifer Lawrence. She seems like a normal person.  I also really like Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order SVU.

 5. Actor you’d be happy to be stuck on an island with?
I'd choose Tom Hanks because he's got prior experience with being stuck on an island. Maybe he'd have pointers on how to get home quicker. (Cast Away, 2000)

1. What is the best New Years Eve you've ever had?
The only one that sticks out  is when Joe and I watched King Kong. We were at the theater on New Year's Eve and I got upset with him because he didn't tell me Happy New Year right when it turned midnight. I'm a nutball.

2. Are you doing anything for NYE this year and if so what?
No plans at this time, although there's a local concert/benefit I'm considering. It's just easy to stay home and watch Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's.

3. Name a book we should all read come January?
Wrecked by Jeff Goins or Star Girl by Jerry Spinelli

4. What are your new year's resolutions?
I'm terrible at keeping resolutions.  Reoccurring resolutions have included: "Read my Bible More", "Eat healthier", "Be more organized", "Exercise consistently", etc. This year, I want to get clutter under control in our home. Instead of waiting until the New Year begins, I've already begun clearing small spaces and I hope to make better habits that will stay with me throughout the year. If you have any helpful hints regarding clutter control, feel free to share. I'm always open for new ideas!

Sunday Social

How did you come up with your blog name? When I was younger I said, "If I ever had a clothing line it'd be called Every Day is Your Runway. Get it? Because your life is always on display and people are watching how you live, not just your fashion."

What is your favorite thing about blogging? Friendships and opportunities - basically that there are people in the world with interests like mine that I wouldn't know about otherwise.

What is one thing you have discovered because of blogging and now cant live without? The always stylish statement necklace and lots of fun places to buy them\

Facebook or Twitter? and why? I choose Facebook because I have more followers/friends there. Most of my real life people haven't made the switch.

If one celeb read your blog who would you want it to be? Kandee Johnson! I have crazy love for that lady.

What is something you want people to know about your blog? Although I describe my blog to others as a "frugal fashion" blog, it's not always about the clothes and I write about more than what's on the surface. I'm not very consistent with blogging but I'm a good friend to have.

Sunday Social

Seriously- with close to 4,000 pins - I'm an avid fan of the ol' Pinterest machine. When I saw Neely and Ashley's Sunday Social  topic I had to jump on board. Without further adieu ...

1. What is your favorite outfit pin?
'Fashionista Bloggerista' is my favorite board. It has all the styles I like even if my closet doesn't.... I love all things sequined and this top hat really completes this look. Now... where to wear it?

2. What is your favorite food pin?
I am a sucker for all things pizza.

3. What is your favorite wedding pin?
Our wedding was more etsy centered than Pinterest centered. Somehow I missed that band wagon. Fortunately for you, I pinned one of our wedding craftiness photos.... you're welcome .Yes, my friends, family, bridesmaids, husband-to-be were incredible and helped me make these.

4. What is your favorite DIY/craft pin?
Sugar Skull. Must I say more?

5. What is your favorite quote/verse/lyric pin?

6. Share one more random pin you love.

I laughed so hard I cried.

Sunday Social

I'm linking up with Neely from A Complete Waste of Makeup today- so stick around and see what's up!

What is your ideal way to relax: When I come home after a long day of teaching- I usually get home right in time for Friends. I sit on the couch and completely veg out. Some days call for thrift-therapy. If the funds are available, a brief thrifting trip helps me relax.

Where is your favorite place to be: I'm such a cornball but I love to be with my husband. If I'm not with him, I always enjoy being with my parents.

 100_1330

Who do you consider your biggest role model: My mom is incredible. She is one of the most godly women I know. I really respect and admire her pizzazz and love for people. She's fashionable, kind, and funny.

MeandMom

What does your life look like in 3 years? Probably a lot like it does now... maybe a baby (???) but time will tell. I'd like to continue teaching where I am now.

 JanaandNephew

 JoeandNephew

Disclaimer: NOT our kid - but he is our nephew and he is dang cute!

If you could go back and change one decision what would it be? Perhaps I'd strive to be more organized growing up so that I'd have that life skill now? Honestly - I have no regrets. It's all got me where I am today and I like this place.

What is your biggest accomplishment in life thus far? Before 30- I've graduated Magna Cum Laude, got my first teaching job and kept it for nearly 7 years, purchased my own home, own my own car, have no student loans, and married the man of my dreams. I'm thinkin' my life is pretty snazzy... Not to brag. All glory goes to Jesus Christ, my savior and Lord.

Sunday Social

It's been a while since I've linked up.... but what the hey?!

Sunday Social
 This Weeks Questions:
1. What is your favorite Holiday season tradition?
Well, I do have fond memories of caroling with my family. I've you want to see more click here. I also like the tradition my husband and I started last year of opening presents at midnight and making sugar cookies together.
2. Do you have a certain Holiday movie you watch more than others? If so what is it?
I'm a vintage kind of gal. I really like White Christmas

 (source)

3. Show us your favorite decoration or pinterest decoration you wish you could have
As far as favorite decorations go, I'm a simple lady. I like our Christmas Tree. It's white with mostly pink & purple ornaments because that's what I had before I got married. I like the masculine additions from my husband, like the Millenium Falcon and Indiana Jones.

I may need to print this and frame it...

4. Favorite Holiday song?
I come from a caroling family so all the old favorites. I've always had a soft spot for Good King Wenceslas.  Other favorites include: Away in a Manger, Santa Baby, and I Want a Hippopotamus.

5. Favorite Holiday dessert?
Have you heard about the sugar cookies? Growing up my mom and I made a kick butt Sugar Cookie. I did the rolling and cutting and she did the decorating. The tradition has sorta simplified but it's still fun- Hub and I make the Betty Crocker Sugar Cookies and YUM!

6. What is on your wish list this year?
From husband: Moccasin boots
From parents: Mail Box
From Wolf Pack - Hangers and a Head Scarf.
I also wouldn't turn down colored tights or a new blog layout.

Sunday Social: The Good 'Ol Days - Childhood

Shooooooot....joo know I'm leenkeeng up wit mah gurrrl Neely

 ClawBangNikkiDoll
Sportin' the 80s/90s "Claw Bang" aka "Satellite"

1. What do you miss most about being a kid?
Carefree life - I am happy with life right now - but there's nothing like the freedom of childhood.
IMG_0003
Being a kid and being dorky with a frisbee on my head....always making a fashion statement, right?

IMG_0001
Dance costumes clearly spurred my love of sequins...

IMG
I miss you, Uncle Carl

2. Did you have a nickname growing up? What was it?
My elementary friends and high school friends still call my Jana Banana. My grannaw (grandmother) called me Jinga and the Apple of her eye. My daddy still calls me doll.

3. What was your favorite thing to do at recess?
Early childhood years, playing in the dirt making castles and playing church with nasty, dirty popsicle sticks we found outside and playing Barbies at recess.

Middle school -we walked the track that was on the playground and played pogs.

4. What did you want to be when you grew up?
Haha - I was a weirdo - I wanted to be a country singer. I do not currently enjoy the country music.  I also wanted to be a children's book author and pediatrician. In hindsight, all my career leanings came to fruition with being a first grade teacher.

5. What was your favorite toy?
Oh mercy... I loved me some Polly Pockets. They were so much vastly light years better when we were kids. More choke-on-able but clearly better. Those big things they have now are NOT Polly Pockets. More like Polly Purses.

And of course....the ever popular, always timeless - Barbie! The important thing about Barbies was making them talk.

6. What is the funniest thing you did as a kid that your parents still remind you about?
Have you met me?! I'm a hoot and a half! I did/do all kinds of funny things! My mom still tells about my third birthday party. I've always been quite the gregarious individual. (Gregarious- fond of the company of others; sociable) Anyway, my parents told me I could invite who I wanted. So I spent the weeks leading up to my birthday inviting every person I knew.... and all 100 people showed up to the local McDonald's. Yep. I like people.

Sunday Social

Linking up with Neely and Ashley for Sunday Social

This Weeks Questions:

1. What is something you have wanted to do but are afraid of?
I'm not actually adventureous.... so it definitely wouldn't be a daring feat like jumping from a plane or something. Maybe something like find a lipstick that works for me. Or signing up for a month-to-month commitment with something like Birchbox or sponsoring someone's blog. Ooooh....or visiting another country. It's not an irrational fear. It's more of a financial concern/fear. I don't really have a brilliant answer for this.

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Being married to hubbalicious, of course. Quite possibly with our first and only little bundle of joy and maybe in a different, slightly larger home.

IMG_9723_zpsfb02eead

3. What are you looking forward to before the end of 2012?
I'm looking forward to Fall Break, Fall clothing, watching my firsties grow & learn, Halloween, decorating the spookhouse and scaring the crap outta people, working on growing my blog friends, watching Fall tv shows, and Christmas.

4. What are your hopes for your blog?
I enjoy sharing things that interest me. It makes me happy to actually have people read it! I hope it keeps growing and I hope I stay consistent in posting. (seems like the longer the school year goes the trickier it becomes...) I want to stay friends with the bloggy friend I've already made and I want to make MORE bloggy friends. Biggest hope & dream for this lil' blog is to reach 100 followers by the end of 2012.

5. Do you always see yourself living in your current town/city?
Haha.... if you'd asked me 8 years ago the answer would have been, "NO! I'm getting the heck out of here!" But I really love my hometown. I like the familiarity of my hometown. I like the proximity to our families. If you ask my husband - he wants to pack up and move to England. As much as I love all things British, that sounds terrifying. We'll see....

6. What is your morning routine?
7:15 ish - smack snooze on the alarm
7:20 ish - roll out of bed go to the restroom
7:25- check my facebook and email to see if I got new comments and take my daily meds (have to take them 30 minutes before I eat)
7:30 - pick out clothes and slowly get ready
8:10- out the door to be at work by 8:15
(I'm a nighttime shower person. That extra bit of sleep in the a.m. is just too valuable. Mornings are definitely NOT my strong point.)

I shouldn't have to tell you....but I'm awesome

Let's start this shindig with an outfit post - why??? Because it's sort of  a fashion blog. Sort of.

 020-5
Scarf - Thrifted       Sequin Shirt- Thrifted       Jeans- Thrifted

You wanna know why I chose that face? It's my best modeling face. This best showcases my modeling abilities. You like? I knew you would.
1. 5 items you can't live without on a daily basis(water, food, shelter, and clothes don't count)
a.) Jesus
 (source)
b.) my laptop
c.) my crusty, old, flip- phone
(fully aware I need to join the 21st century - - - but this phone has stuck with me through thick and thin...)
 100_1239

 e.) people
Did you know I REALLY like people?
You know how a flower needs water?
THAT's how I feel about people. Love 'em.

2. All time favorite book? Why?
Oh my dear - - - I do like reading. It just makes me so sleepy.... so I read the same things again, and again, and again, and again - - - well, you get the picture.
My favorite book outside of the Bible- (true story) is probably Stargirl. It's written by Jerry Spinelli and it's delightful. I am she. She is me. We are we. I heart Stargirl. And the follow up - Love, Stargirl.
 (Source)
Every time I read it - I feel less "odd" and more unique. I feel a kindred spirit with the character. It's a beautiful love story about loving people and loving yourself.

3. Something you'd like to accomplish before the end of 2012
This is a true, honest wish for myself- I'd like to get our house clean. Like, for real clean. Organized. Put together.  Confession: I. am. a. slob. Like.....truly- so embarrassing.
When I confessed in the teacher's lounge the other day- a new teacher at school was quite surprised and said she never would have guessed. I look put together. I'm not. I'm a huge, gigantic, awful slob of a human being. It'd be a major accomplishment to get my messes cleaned up. (Just an fyi- it's NOT the husband who is the slob.)

4. If you could go back and relive any year of your life which year would it be?
I  know a lot of people hated high school but I was one of the lucky ones. I would LOVE to go back and relive my senior year. I would have been more "present". I miss color guard and winter guard - with a flaming, burning passion, I miss it. I yearn for the jitters that jumped in my heart before we went on the field at half-time. Sounds ridiculous but it was a good time and I was DANG good at it too. (Yeah, I'm the dorky lady who still has her color guard costumes stored away with her letterman's jacket. What?)

5. What do you wish people knew about you without you having to tell them?
Um- hello!- I'm awesome with a healthy dose of self-confidence. Stick around! Get to know me. I promise, you'll like me. And I REALLY am this nice in real life. :o)

Being Social on a Sunday

1. What is the name of your blog and how did you come up with it??
When I was younger I used to say, "If I ever had my own clothing line, it would have Every Day is Your Runway as it's tagline."  You never know who is watching you. Your life is on display - your runway - so to speak. It's not just about your appearance, your fashion, your style, but your personality, your morals, your thoughts, the way you treat people. Somehow I am known as a fashion-y lady. People remember my unique style. (I'm not being fatheaded, people really have told me that before.) I asked on my personal facebook if people would be interested in reading my opinions and thoughts on fashion in blog form and I got a positive response. Hence... Every Day is Your Runway was born.

2. What do you love the most about blogging??
I'm a people person. I really like to see the best in everyone and I'm kind of naive that way. I like having new followers. I like getting comments. I like being able to make new friends. I enjoy having a place to share my thoughts and have people I don't already know in real life like it. And that's the truth.

3. What are your 2 favorite posts you've written?
Tied:
Bullet Necklace Tutorial and Apple for the Teacher - DIY

Here I go - basically a how-to on thrifting - and my very first post

4. What is something you'd want to tell someone just starting out in blog world?
Well - I'm definitely no expert. I've had my little bloggy blog coming up on three years (My blog's third birthday is later this month!) I just got serious about it at the beginning of the summer and here are the things I've learned.

1. Being a no-reply blogger is no fun. Most bloggers like to communicate with their peeps. If we can't talk to you - you can't be our new bestie! What's a no-reply blogger? Well, I get all my comments sent to my e-mail. When I try to reply to them and there's no email address to reply to...that's a no reply blogger. Wanna know how to change it? Go here.

2. Spend some time making your blog pretty. You can learn a lot from Google. You can DIY a header, a button, a background, and all kinds of cool stuff. It's worth the effort. If you decorate it - they will come.

3. Participate in link-ups to get followers but don't ONLY do link-ups. That's boring and people want to read your original stuff too. Some of my favorites link-ups are Gentri Lee's Seven Questions on Wednesdays and Neely and Ashley's Sunday Social and Neely and Amber's It's Okay Thursdays.

4. Stay true to yourself and write about what you like. You can be "inspired by" other bloggers but if you compare yourself and try to be like them...you'll not be happy with what you write about.

5. Biggest blogging learning experience you've had?
'Member how I said to Google stuff to learn how to do it?  Yeah. I'm not a user of profanity but I almost became one while trying to learn how to make a blog background and header. I'm pretty sure my blog will stay this way forever because I'm currently too po' and too cheap to pay someone to design my blog. Plus - it took hours  upon hours upon daaaaaays to learn how to do this. You bettah red-neck-onize how cute this is because...dang it ya'll...it was difficult!

Source: snhblog.com via Jana on Pinterest

6. Give us 3 blogs we NEED to be following that you love.
Of course - I like my own blog - but since you're already here... how about some mo'? (p.s. this is really hard to choose only 3. I told you I like people.)

Heather at Cookies For Breakfast -  She is funny. She has a way cute son. She is really funny. She is honest. Even as a lady without a baby... I enjoy reading her blog posts about her son Benjamin and cool stuff she writes about like cloth diapers and making your own baby food. She's witty. Oh, did I mention she's funny? Plus....she writes back! Seriously... you'll love her!

Okay - so - Kandee Johnson just about makes me crap my pants every time she replies to a comment I leave her. She is a blogging rock star.  She is the person who inspired me to start my own youtube channel. Her personality is so bubbly. She's quirky, random, and inspirational. When her dad passed away earlier this year...she was so strong. I've never met her but she is so good about making her blog readers feel like they really know her and feel important. When I grow up, I want my blog to be a haven like Kandee's.

When Mine Became Ours is another fun one. She wears cute outfits. Writes cute things about her and her husband. Writes funny tales of her day-to-day life. I especially enjoy her Awkward & Awesome posts. She occasionally has delicious recipes. It's a hodge podge of awesome! Now...time to visit!
