It's okay Thursdays

Its Ok Thursdays

What is up with me and the song lyrics going with everything????

It's okay....
- that I just posted an old song that I sang obsessively... and learned from watching the Disney channel.

-  that my classroom isn't put together yet for this year.

- that we have a sink full of gross dishes.

- that I'd rather post on my blog than do dishes.

- I cried while watching So You Think You Can Dance tonight.

- if you don't answer texts back immediately. Some people aren't attached to their phone.

- that I make weird bullet necklaces, even if I'm uncertain other people will like/wear them.

- if none of my other friends wear vintage clothes.

-to think water is not delicious.

- to think the two protesters that were at our teacher training today were slightly funny, even if they were standing up for what they believe in.

Stop and Smell the Roses

I am linking up with Mandy for this week's Stop & Smell the Roses vlog.

Stop and Smell the Roses

We get to take a minute to notice things that make us happy and share with our friends.  It's so important to pause in life and be thankful. It seems like everything is always hussle and bustle and go go go! "Too little time to answer my phone, let me shoot you a text. Too much going on to visit my family... no time to catch up with friends."

So..

(try to ignore the super awkward facial expression at the beginning.... what is that?!)

If you're interested in the OERB stuff I mentioned for teachers in Oklahoma check it out here.

I actually found out about Mandy's blog through Ashley. And I found out about Ashley through the Sunday Social link-ups that she and Neely sponsor. Whoa! Isn't it cool how bloggers all know about other cool blogs that you can follow too? Love it!

Teaching on Tuesdays

Most of you know, outside the blog world, I'm a first grade teacher.

Today is my first tip - and I'm proud to say, this is my own original idea. I've not seen anyone else use this. Also, you're about to learn a little about my personal life. Ha!

I've been saving these little sleeves for months now. If they look familiar, it's because they're birth control packaging. I know, it's a bit 'hoarder-ish' of me to still have them (and also a bit awkward of me to show them to the whole wide world!) My idea is to use them as portable sight word practice folders. Plus, if you use dry-erase markers on the shiny, see-through portion they can trace over the word or LOTS of other ideas. For now, I have half a class set or enough for students to practice in pairs. Or I could even use these little things during small group instruction.

Do you have some ideas? Please share... Do tell, do tell !  And.... I know, I know, it's a little weird but it's also quite practical. :o) I have more tips to come....

Cleanin' Out My Closet

When I see closet do-overs - I always feel like my closet is never gonna match up.  So, here's a closet purge of a real life, non organized person.
1. Take everything out of the closet.

2. If I hadn't worn it in the last 6-12 months, it went in the "get rid of" pile.
3. I tried everything on I thought might not fit. If it didn't fit or was tricky to put on, in "the pile".

With this method, I got rid of 12 items.

I still need to go through my other closet.

As far as space conservation goes, I'm slowly acquiring  Huggable Hangers.
Source: target.com via Jana on Pinterest

They look nice and are available in a variety of colors. You can also buy "generic" ones that work equally as well at places like Ross and Marshall's.  I've seen hangers that are similar at Dollar Tree, but at fifty cents per hanger, I just don't think it's worth the $1 for two "bargain."

Here's the "After" shot...

Whatchu got in that bag?

Seriously, this song is what I think of when I think, "what you got in that bag?" I know it's not a completely 'savory' song but I graduated in 2001 - can ya blame me? ;o)

Favorite handbag you've ever owned
Honestly, it's a toss up between my clock purse and a pink purse I had back in high school. I carried that pink purse until it fell apart. It was hot pink and I unfortunately have no pictures of it.

Lucky for you... I DO have a picture of the clock purse!

Dream handbag you lust over
???? Beats the crap outta me. I like buying weird quirky stuff at thrift stores, especially since I tend to be pretty hard on them. I guess if I were going to have to pick a high end something, I'd like to have a Coach purse that would match a lot of things, probably black.
