7 Questions #2

Funny picture of the week: My stinkin' adorable nephew and I were playing with the camera. I'm mid-silly noise in this picture and he's humoring me quite nicely. :o)

1. If you were to start your own business, what would it be?
I love shopping & I like to pretend I know what would look right on people. I'd love to have a personal shopper type business. Truth is, I'm probably in the wrong area of the country for that to be a success.

2. You wake up on the wrong side of the bed, do you embrace your grumpiness or try to fight it?
Let's be honest. If you've known me very long, I'm a cranky girl in the mornings. I'm embracing the grumpy.

3. What's the very first memory you have?
This is tricky. I can remember standing on my bed, looking in a mirror cutting my bangs when I was 3ish. I remember thinking, "Ooooh, I hope momma doesn't walk in here. I'm cutting my bangs." I can remember the jittery, nervous feeling. That was not my last time to cut my hair myself....

4. The world is ending, what do you do? Allow yourself to die? Fight? Hide? Etc.
I'm a wienie. If we're going...I'm going to make sure people know about Jesus and then allow myself to die. I know where I'm going.

5. What is your favorite meal of the day?
The kind where I get to eat. Kidding! I probably like dinner the best because that's the time I get to eat with friends. I'm not really a breakfast-y kind of person....so probably dinner. Truly, if there's food involved, I'm generally a happy camper.

6. How do you best learn? Visual? Listening? Hands on?
I remember the few times I've done an assessment to find out, I usually get audio-visual. College professors always said I'm the kind of student teachers wish they had because I'm "cut out for school". I have to make myself be a hands-on learner though because if not, my classroom tends to be more boring. I struggle with hands-on learning because it's not my natural bent.

7. What is your favorite joke?
lol - - - the MOST corny, first-grade appropriate ones make me laugh.
"So, there's these two sausages sitting in a frying pan. They're just laying in there, wipin' sweat off and one looks up and says, "Man it's sure hot in here!" The other sausage looks up and says, "AAAAAAAH! A talking sausage!" - - - makes me laugh every time. Probably because I think I'm hilarious!

Little Pretties

Just for kicks and grins I went to an antique market and I found a couple little pretties.

When I first saw this lamp... I couldn't believe the $5 price tag. I fell in love with it and I've already set that little cutie up in our kitchen. So cute!

These flower bowls are so dainty and pretty. I got them both for less than $3! I initially thought about putting rings in them but right now they're on a set of drawers in the living room. Perhaps we'll put our keys in there. They're just so pretty!

Thankful Reflection

Recently went to a graduation and it made me reflect . I was so fortunately blessed with amazing friends growing up. This is not an "inclusive" list of people but these girls have been some of my nearest and dearest since third grade. I love these ladies! Each of of them has Christ in their life and had it not been for them... my life could have been vastly different in high school. Thank you Jesus, for godly friends who've become Christian women.

Memorial Day DIY

Hooray for the red, white, & blue! I am a fan of America and thankful for the men & women who protect it.

But when it comes to "fashionable" patriotic clothing...I've always struggled with that color combo. Thanks to Pinterest, I was inspired by this photo - - - (sweet etsy lady is charging $35 for these shorts.... I'm a little more frugal.... a.k.a "cheap")
Photobucket

So here's my longer, more Jana-friendly version step by step. Enjoy!

1. Start with some thrifted jeans. Bet you could find some even cheaper.
 Photobucket

2. I used cheapo masking tape from probably Dollar Tree. I taped off a vertical section to make the red stripes.
Photobucket

3. Paint red stripes. I ended up having to paint a few layers to make it show up properly.
Photobucket

4. I free handed some gold stars with my gold paint pen. If you're uncomfortable with your star drawing ability, you can always make a template for a star to trace.
 Photobucket

5. Paint with white inside the gold outlines and kinda cover those up as you go along... and here's some proof I'm doing this myself. :o)
  Photobucket

6. Let it dry...
 Photobucket

7. Take the paint off once it's dry. I think I'm going to let these sit a day. I'm probably going to go back and do some "distressing" on them with my cheese grater. (Who knew you could use it for that?!) I might also go back and paint in between the red stripes with white.

Photobucket

Edit: 8. I decided to go ahead and paint the white stripes. My paint is splotchy so I'm going to do a couple more layers. Heads up, the more layers you make, the more stiff your pants become.

Photobucket

I'm pretty excited about wearing these. I plan to wear them out and about. The big "debut" will be on Memorial Day at my family reunion. I debated with myself about making these because I was a little worried I might offend someone...but please know, that's not my heart. I hope you enjoy and have a delightful holiday weekend. Thanks so much for reading. I absolutely love having friends who are readers, new readers, getting comment, and seeing that little ticker move up. Such a fun hobby this is!

Have fun and as always,

7 Questions Wednesday

It's your favorite day of the week- Wednesday, Wed-nes-day- a.k.a. Hump Day! I remember in about 2nd grade my teacher describing the week as a hill. When you get to the top, you've reached the "hump" and from there it's all down hill. Every Wednesday, I think of it as Hump Day. I even showed my first grade darlings that same illustration. So on Wednesdays, those sweeties would remind me. <3 them.

You're not a fan of Wednesdays? You prefer...Saturdays? Oh. Well, they're not as fun without Saturday morning cartoons. :oP Go read my seven questions now.

7 Questions!!

To this day, this is one of my FAVORITE photos of me and my Joe-Joe

Photobucket

1. What's your favorite style for home decor? (eclectic, modern, shabby chic, etc.)
I tend to lean towards shabby chic in my mind but in my actual decor it's more eclectic. You see, I'm married now... it's got some "manly" items now. :o)

2. What is the best trip you have EVER been on?
*dreamy smile* My honeymoon roadtrip to Nashville. The first time I've ever been on a trip with the love of my life and it was truly the best memory-making experience.

3. If you could have an exotic pet, what would it be and why?
With my allergies, I'd be allergic to it. I'll stick to Tabby Cleo who lives on the porch.

 Photobucket

4. Do you snore? (you can be honest, we're all friends here.)
Sometimes. Sleeping hard and being sick will do that to a gal. It's not a regular sleep habit though.

5. Your car breaks down on the side of the road, what do you do?

 Call Joe.
Photobucket
If he doesn't know....

Call Daddy.
Photobucket
Problem solved. :o)

6. What's one item that has been on your wishlist lately?
I'm really flighty about the things I want. After all the blogs I've been reading lately, I'm thinkin' I might want a sewing machine. I'm also pretty sure husband would like to strangle me because he'd already tried to talk me into one of those. Sorry.... I changed my mind. Let's a get a sewing machine? Pretty please?
(Although, since I'm flighty... I may change my mind....again.)

7. It's almost Summer (or winter if you live in the Southern Hemisphere), what are you looking forward to most?
July is our one year anniversary. I'm pretty excited to make it to our first milestone! Other than that, I'm just excited to make stuff and be able to relax. (When I say "make stuff" that includes stuff for my classroom & my home...just so people don't think I'm slackin'.)

Now it's your turn!

Bucket List

Okay, I don't really consider myself tech-savvy but I'm pleased to point out the new blog header. You like? I made it myself! No hired help or anything! Yay me! Special shout out to Tristen at Totally Booked Solid & her awesome hubby for their help. Not to be left out or forgotten, another special shout out to the love of my life for putting up with me when I got cranky trying to figure this out. Love you!

If you're interested in making your own header or facebook photo, this is the tutorial I used. She is great!

I was thinking last night about the things I'd like to do before I "kick the bucket". Is that how that saying goes? I don't know. You know, when I get to go to Heaven and see Jesus... kick the can? Oh well...

Do you have a bucket list? I keep thinking of little things I wanna do... this list is not inclusive but it's a start.
1. Comic Con with my husband
2. Visit New York
3. Visit England
4. Visit Spain
5. Build our own Tardis replica
6. Donate my hair to Locks of Love (it's getting pretty long now, so this one should be easy)

Loungy Day Debut

Today was lovely! I got to sleep in on a Monday... sat on the couch and read a bajillion blogs. Got so incredibly inspired to redo my house, naturally on a budget. Holy moly.... see, there's my point: EVERY. DAY. IS. YOUR. RUNWAY! Not only are your clothes but also your home.... I'm thinkin' I'm gonna make mine more "runway ready". ;o)

On to my point... I didn't have to do anything today, thanks to my darling husband. When we finally got out and about tonight, I decided to debut my galaxy shorts. :oD
Check 'em out!

There's a whole Galaxy

I don't know why it's never occurred to me before but Chictopia & Pinterest have inspired me to try DIY fashion. I have seen the galaxy trend all over. I'm a big fan. <3 I bought a pair of jeans last week at Goodwill and tonight...the big reveal & my version of how to! I hope you guys enjoy it. Please comment and let me know what you think.

1. Cut black jeans to a respectable length for shorts.
 Photobucket
Husband thinks he's a photographer ;o)
Photobucket

2. Find your inspiration picture.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1
This is gorgeous & I don't claim to be half the artist My Lord is...
Photobucket

3. Choose your colors.
In hindsight, I should have taken a photo of all the paint bottles but, mostly, I used silver, blue, two shades of purple, pink, red, & yellow splats
Photobucket
Layers....
Photobucket

More layering until I get tired of layering...

I'm not sure my final product turned out like I wanted. I kept asking Joe what I needed to do to fix it. He keeps telling me nothing needs to be fixed. Meh. I'll wear these buggers. No one else has them. You should do some too! I have blue jeans I plan on doing a patriotic type something. Please let me know what you think... Do you like DIY type stuff? Do you want me to do more like this?

Thrift Store Lovin'

I have ALWAYS wanted a vintage tooled leather belt... but every time I looked on ebay, my usual source of fashion rarities, I couldn't make myself spend the $30-$40. I always keep my eyes peeled, and this weekend, I hit the JACK-POT! Ca-ching! I found 4, count 'em, 4!!! vintage tooled belts. I only bought 3 of that style. I love Bargain Thrift store. One of my favorite things is they have a daily markdown on merchandise, 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%. Sometimes you get super lucky and find some treasure no one else appreciated and it's not only at a thrift store but also on clearance. I also bought an extra teal belt because, well, I wanted it and at a $1 it was a steal. :o) Enjoy my finds! :o) Good condition & gorgeous scrolling - - - just like I always wanted 026-3 I love the buckles! Originally, the buckles were swapped on the belts but I was drawn to the turquoise buckle so much more. <3 025-2 I also got a skirt much like the ones I've always admired in Romancing the Stone. Except, the ones there cost $25 while mine only cost $5. Yay thrift stores! 024-2 As always, get your fashion on... <3 Jana Faith <3 Thrift it up ya'll!
