Everyone loves a good vlog, right?

Thanks for letting me borrow your sweet beats, NY Rap Beats. If teaching doesn't pan out... I could have a career in rapping. Obviously, it works well with my white girl swag and southern twang.

Glasses: Firmoo
(I won a giveaway from Elsha at When Mine Became Ours)
Earrings: Little Hawthorne at BlissDom
Shirt: Thrifted (obviously)
Shorts: Thrifted (double obviously)
Necklace: It's a lucky horseshoe and you can't even see it but I bought it on Instagram.
Shoes: Santa Claus bought them on Amazon. Minnetonkas are loverly.
They also make other Captain D's diners inquire about my Native American Cherokee heritage and whether or not I know how to stomp dance. I do not.

How to fix your thrifted shoes...

I get it. Some people think thrifted shoes are gross. I do not. So... this may not be your thing.

Nerves have taken over. What am I wearing at BlissDom?! Suddenly... my clothes suck. I'm stressed. I'm going thrifting.

I found some really cute nude heels that are perfect for all seasons, depending on how I style them. While walking around the store, I noticed they were a little crumpled on one foot. (Probably because Goodwill puts a rubberband around their shoes to keep pairs together.) Hardly noticeable while being worn...

As I'm checking out, I mention something to the sales clerk and she said, "Oh you could probably get the hair dryer after them and fix it easily. Just put some newspaper or a sock in the toe." What?! Okay, I've seen things like this on Pinterest multiple times but I never gave it much thought.

Onward and upward....

Proof of how unworn they are:

First I rolled up three socks: two regular sized and one knee-high. I shoved those puppies down in there...

Get out your hair dryer and shoot it at the crumpled area until it starts relaxing.

Finished product...

The only thing that is not my favorite about this is it stretched out the toe box for that shoe a bit. Now my right foot has room to grow. Other than that, It's pretty fantastic and I don't think it will be a major problem.

Also noteworthy- similar shoes are selling on eBay between $20-$30. I got mine for $5. You know I love a good bargain!

Are you going to try this sometime? What do you think? Can't even tell... except I already told you the secret. *Shhhhh*

Thrifty Thursday

As you know, I enjoy thrifting. And today you'll see - it's a familial trait. My niece says she started thrifting again after reading this post. Naturally, we knew we'd be great thrifters together and we got to spend some quality time together.

AlyseandJana2
We started the day off at her tidy, cutely decorated apartment.

We took the always popular "car shot"

Thrifted the afternoon away and I found these lovely treasures...GreenVintageThrift

This vintage, plaid shirt is my FAVORITE find of the day. Can't wait to pair it with shorts this summer!

All my thrift finds totaled under $25.
(Not pictured is a book for my classroom)
 BONUS tip for thrifting:
We both wore leggings with a longish shirt because it makes it easier for trying on items in the dressing room.

After an afternoon of thrifting, we headed to a local cupcake eatery, Cupcakes to Go Go. Alyse is a HUGE fan of cupcakes, and really, what girl in her right mind isn't?

Hello, delicious cupcake. I really enjoyed this icing. Nom.

Clearly we're related because we're both a couple of hams. Sidenote: How much do you loooove the orange and pink color scheme here?! So stinkin' cute! Also, sorry to use disgusting manners and show you my food, but oh well, right? ;o)

How to score at a thrift store...

And I don't mean score with a boy...har har
.
Anyone who knows me IRL knows I'm a thrifter. Obviously not everyone lives in my area
Here are some tips to help you "score" no matter where you live.

100_1238
(Still need to cut out the shoulder pads...)

100_1236
Koosh ball - dominoes - book - all scores for my classroom! $1.25 for all the items pictured
  1. Go several times to make up your mind about whether it's a "good one" or not.
  2. Look at everything!
  3. Try on lots of things!
  4. Look up Thrift Stores in your area. Make a list. Hit them all. Not in the same day...
  5. Don't rush. Take. Your. Time.
  6. Go different times of year. Sometimes you'll find Christmas stuff in July. Sometimes you'll find Halloween stuff after Halloween. I find great sweaters and hoodies in summer. (Sometimes I don't buy them because winter attire makes me feel trapped. I should probably get over that...)
  7. You can get great stuff for those Pinterest Projects at thrift stores! (are you following my Pinterest?)

  8. Most thrift stores are not in the most savory parts of town. Try to go in the a.m. or early afternoon.
  9. Look at things with open eyes. Think about whether you could alter the piece to make it work for you. I cut out shoulder pads. I had a friend hem a dress. With furniture and home decor - could you paint it? Is it a good shape for a redo? Don't box yourself in when looking at things.
  10. Everything is washable. True story. If you only look for pristine, new stuff in thrift stores, tough nuggets people -odds are strong you won't find it.
  11. Sometimes you get lucky and find brand, spanking, new stuff - tags still on it - in thrift stores. Know what makes my heart skip a beat? Deadstock, vintage. Sometimes I find vintage with the tags still on it.
  12. Lots of trends that are currently in Forever 21 can be found in thrift stores. Be aware of trends you see - "Jana, I don't have time for that!" Sure you do! If you follow blogs, there are lots of trends there. Observe magazine covers while standing in line at the grocery store. Without looking creepery, scope out what young folks are wearing. They're all about the trendy stuff.
  13. Look for things other than clothing -I've purchased books for my classroom, wall hangings for home, chairs to redo (still on my to do list), figurines for my home, music (records, cds, 8-tracks), amazing vintage dishes, etc.
  14. Most thrift stores have a certain day of the week they put out new merchandise. If you're all about finding the new stuff, you can inquire about what days they put out new merchandise.

Here are some of my recent scores from the thrift store...

Quality Time at Quality Thrift

Even though I've technically been out of school the last 6 years, my sweet momma takes me "back to school" shopping. Fortunately, she knows how much I enjoy thrifting and when she offered to take me shopping she didn't even blink when 90% of the stuff that went in the basket was vintage. My mom has always been awesome about accepting me the way I am and encouraging me to pursue things I enjoy.

Here's the rule I grew up with regarding clothes:
"Jana Faith, so long as it's modest, you can wear what you want."

Love that. Love my momma. Love my daddy. Blessed and thankful beyond measure. Not only is my momma a wonderful parent but she's a special friend.

Beautiful Momma

Here are just a few of the beauties we scored Saturday.  The place we went is called Quality Thrift

002-12
Left to right:
$6.98
$2.98
$2.98

I love the middle pair. They remind me a lot of shoes I might have had when I was younger. Funny part is - I did have some similar shoes when I was younger even thought these shoes are from the 70's. I've ALWAYS been a vintage lover. Cuh-raze-ay how much I heart vintage. Always have. Always will. Probably.

See, you can score unique bargains at a thrift store!!! I also realize a lot of people are leery of buying used shoes but it's never bothered me. Plus, these shoes all looked like they were in good shape and fairly clean.

Have a great day! And....

Goodwill towards men...women...people!

I got in my Target Beauty Bag - It was F-R-E-E, so next time you see those things available. Snatch it up because the little bag alone is worth it. :o)

Photobucket

Goodwill shopping with my sweet friend, Baby Wolf at Goodwill. She wants to make some flag pants as featured here.
 Photobucket

This day I was having trouble finding my usual motivation. Usually, I have a basketful  to try on after a row.
Photobucket
btw, these skorty, shorties didn't work out for me. :o(
Okay, maybe I'm crazy but I have seen LOTS of solid colored bottoms in the fashion world lately. I'm also CHEAP so .... check out all the colorful pants!
Photobucket

I tried on several pairs of colorful shorts...

007-10
I really liked the color and fit of these shorts on me. Sadly, I left without them. They were 100% cotton and knowing how I kind of stink at laundry... I try to stay away from 100% cotton. Either way, they're cute, right?

 Photobucket
although these were cute...the color is just too shiny for summer shorts. They made me feel like a truck: a.k.a. wide load. No thanks, blue shorts. Not that I'm saying I'm large by any means. I am saying these were not my favorite. I have to like them and feel confident. These are a no-go.

These pretties... I keep. :o) $3.99
009-8
When I was trying them on, I made the button come off. Boo. Sewing skills come in handy when thrifting. At the very least, I can sew on a button. ;o)

Wanted. Badly. Wanted to rescue this pretty so someone could wear it! It features the currently stylish peplum style. Too small for me. I hung it back up but I wanted to capture it's pretty image for all the blog world to see. $5.99 style.
Photobucket

This is tied for my favorite purchase. $2.99

 Duckface because I can.
Photobucket
(I really like red and black together)

Besides Goodwill, we visited another store but I didn't document it as well. These are my beauties from there.

Photobucket
Left to Right
Purple & Black $.49
White & Black $2.99
Mauves Cardigan - Half off $3.99 - Final - 1.99

Lastly, my sweet momma and I went to Ross, Panera, and Target together. I love spending time with her because I like her. She's a beautiful momma and a sweet friend. We always have fun giggling and laughing together about life. She's so sweet to me. She blessed my life and heart with these purchases.

It was a full day of shopping. Full. In case you needed to know, those sandals are really cute and sure, they're flats. DON'T WEAR THEM FOR ALL-DAY-SHOPPING. Why? You ask....Because my feet hurt like a mug Saturday night. Superawful. I even took two Tylenol to numb the pain. Poor, dramatic me. ;o)

Anyway, you can have fun fashion for inexpensive prices. :o) Share your thoughts because I sure do love to read comments. :o)
