Food! Glorious Food!

Hey people, I'm well rounded and I've got a song for it all!

Linking up with Neely and Ashley

Sunday Social
Welcome to this weeks' SUNDAY SOCIAL! Where the questions and answers are all about FOOD! Yummers. I do love to eat!
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Chicken. Definitely definitely chicken. I have another song to describe my love for chicken. It's pretty accurate. Seriously - this song - funny & oh so true!

What's your guilty pleasure/comfort food?
Any time I am sick I want Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream or Cheetos.
 Retro Cheetos
(retro Cheetos we got earlier this summer)
Guilty pleasure food just sounds weird. I eat without guilt most of the time.

What's the weirdest/craziest thing you've ever eaten?
Once, at the fair, I ate alligator on a stick. Super chewy chicken. I've also eaten calamari, which are baby squid, I think. And.... I ate some sushi from Wal-Mart. High class lady right here.

Lastly, when I was a little girl, about three years old, I was really, really, REALLY sick. Dehydrated sick. My precious grandma Jessie made me some chicken noodle soup. I remember thinking that stuff was disgusting. My parents asked me what would make it taste better.... my response: Cheetos. So after putting Cheetos in my chicken noodle soup, I ate it. Kids. *shaking my head*

What foods do you avoid at all costs?
I'm not a real big Asian food fan. I don't know that there's anything I avoid at all costs, per se. My older brother and I had a game growing up called, "I'll eat it if you do" and so I may have lost some of my fear. I ate a pickled onion that was NAST-ay. I'd avoid that like the plague.

What meal reminds you of your childhood? My momma makes some dang good burritos. Like, they are ah-mazing. Salivating right now just thinking of them. Also, my dad had a barbecue restaurant when I was growing up and a "daddy special" makes me think of growing up at the bbq shop after school. Oooooh.... and dad also makes some bombtastic country style ribs. Shooooooot..... I'm getting hongry!

Share one of your favorite recipes and the story behind it.
My momma taught me how to fry chicken. Easy.
1. Put oil in a skillet to warm
2. While oil is warming, coat chicken in eggs, then dip in flour/Lawry's salt/pepper mix
3. Put chicken in warmed oil and listen to it sizzle.

YUM! It's always easier for me show someone how to fry chicken. I've taught a couple of my friends how to fry chicken. Super easy and super delicious. And with that grease, probably the reason the south's population is a bit larger around their midsection? ... whoops. Put some green beans with it and a healthy salad to balance out all those saturated fats. Or whatever. I don't know. I'm making crap up now. Haha.

Stylin' Saturday - Style Icon Copycat

My girl Gwen always be lookin' goooooood! Seriously though, she is one of my favorites. I've always liked her style and this post is my effort to "copy" her style.

Here's the semi-inspiration

She's one of the few who rocks harem pants and I love her for it!

She's always doing some sort of twists with her hair. Whether it's Vintage Victory Rolls or random, sporadic twists - her hair is the bomb!

I got to go to dinner and go thrifting with my gorgeous momma. We laughed and acted silly. Shopped and talked. Had fun and shared. I am so thankful to have the momma I do.
Who can find a virtuous woman? She is far more precious than jewels... Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the time to come.   She opens her mouth with wisdom, and loving instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle. Her sons rise up and call her blessed. He husband also praises her: Many women are capable, but you surpass them all! Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised. ~Proverbs 31:10, 25-30

I hope you enjoyed! Who's your style icon? Whose style do you enjoy? If you could shop with one celebrity - if that's your thing - who would you choose? Gwen is definitely in my top 5.

It's okay, ya' Stupid Cookie

Its Ok Thursdays

It's okay ...

- the cookie didn't turn out even though I followed directions.
 003-15

-  I'm always nervous about new school years.

- I didn't wear makeup today.

- to creatively make up a dinner with stuff that's in the cabinet. Score! Mexican surprise! What's the surprise??? It's actually yummy!

- that my pajama pants drawer barely closes - even after I sifted out and got rid of at least 8 pairs of pj pants.

 - I keep having nightmares about school. They'll go away once the school year gets started.

- that I waited all summer to get caught up on laundry.

- to really look forward to spending quality time with my momma this coming Sunday.

- to wear festive teacher shirts. Seriously - not grandma sweater or sweater vests or dorky stuff - but like - cool, young, hip teacher shirts. And festive socks. No matter what my awesome older brother says. Love ya', bub!

Love Gifts

Perhaps the title is misleading... what I mean is... Gifts made with Love...

My husband and I celebrated our one year anniversary July 9th. Tradition indicates the gift for one year of marriage is paper. I joked with my husband and said, "Yeah, it's paper because newlyweds are POOR!" We both had a giggle at my cleverness. Seriously, we're not poor. I'm just silly.

We decided to make our gifts for each other since we're both kind artsy fartsy. Plus, my teacher friend, let's call her "Snowball", and her husband also follow the traditional list and inspired me to copy. Yes, I'm a copy cat. Haven't your heard? Teachers are awesome at begging, borrowing, and stealing?

Without further adieu... here's what we made
1 year anniversary - paper

I was inspired by this tutorial I'd pinned on Pinterest.

As you can see, Joe is more original than I am.
 Paper Anniversary
He painted a pretty design on paper, folded an origami heart envelope and wrote me a lovely letter.

Isn't love lovely?

Laundry Monster

Time to get real, people....

I started laundry last night. I have been doing one load of laundry after another. All. Day. Long.

In hindsight, a "Before" photo would have been beneficial. It also would have been embarrassing mortifying. We have a nice sized bedroom with a queen sized bed. The space around it is taken up with normal furniture, dresser drawers, bedside table, jewelry armoire. Normal stuff.  Except the built-in-floor-covering of dirty laundry. And it's all mine. Legit. All mine. The husband is amazing and does his laundry - so it's definitely not him. Just me. Call me Messy Bessy.

Here's the worst part. I've been off work all summer. Procrastinate much?

So - realizing there are only 13 12 days until I get to begin a new school year with my darlings - I said, "Holy Crap! What have I been doing with my life?!" And decided to tackle the "Laundry Monster" *cue ominous echo and deep voice for that * You see, the Monster lives in all rooms of our home... bedroom, laundry room, dining area, living room, office, bathroom....yeah. The only place it ISN'T - - - the kitchen.

After FINALLY catching up - - - *pat myself on the back for conquering the beast*

I have a bit of a situation...

These socks....
